Francophonie· easy· informal
en avoir ras le bol
“to have it level with the bowl”
Meaning
to be completely fed up
Explanation
The everyday way of saying you've well and truly had enough of something.
Example
Elle en a ras le bol des embouteillages tous les matins.
She's fed up with the traffic jams every morning.
Origin
A mid-20th century softening of the cruder 'en avoir ras le cul'. 'Bol' was slotted in partly for the shape (both have a round bottom) and partly just to take the edge off the original.
