Appeared in the 1960s. Nobody's sure why. Theories range from Chinese symbolism (peaches represent health and immortality) to boxing slang ('une pêche' means a solid punch) to a connection with 'avoir la patate,' since both 'pêche' and 'patate' are slang for the head.
