avoir ses bibittes

to have one's bugs (a Quebec word for small critters)

Meaning

to have one's own personal issues

Explanation

Used for someone's own private hang-ups, quirks or worries, the kind everyone is assumed to be carrying around.

Example

On a tous nos bibittes, mais ça ne veut pas dire qu'on doit en parler à tout le monde.

We've all got our own baggage, but that doesn't mean we have to tell everyone about it.

Origin

Where "bibitte" comes from is unsettled. One account traces it through the Norman "bibet", a word for mosquitoes and lice; the more popular one has it as a simple reshaping of "bébête". Either way it came to mean bugs in Quebec French, and then the small troubles everyone carries around.
